EncryptUSB is an automatic encryption, portable tool—an app that protects information on a USB drive. Designed to run without installation on a host computer, EncryptUSB operates from the portable drive itself, encrypting every file placed on the drive and decrypting it when moving it off the drive.
Designed with security and compliance in mind for users who transfer sensitive personal information and documents via USB drives, EncryptUSB ensures the files put on the USB drive are encrypted and password-protected.
Remove your external device using the same method that you normally use for your operating system, such as not ejecting the device while the computer is reading or writing to it. To ensure a safe ejection, click the icon in the Windows notification area (system tray) that reads ‘Safely remove hardware and eject media.’ Please note that the app is always running and checking for the external device. As long as there is no other interaction with the device, it is safe to remove it.
You should be able to see the EncryptUSB icon in the Windows notification area (system tray).
EncryptUSB automatically decrypts files every time you access files from the external drive. For example, if you double-click a Microsoft® Word document it will be decrypted and opened in Microsoft Word.
If you copy files from the EncryptUSB drive to another location such as your local hard drive or network drive, then files will be automatically decrypted.
Yes. EncryptUSB is a portable application running on the USB drive. You can have multiple drives with EncryptUSB on it running simultaneously.
A ToolTip (mouse-over) on the EncryptUSB icon in the Windows notification area displays the version number.
EncryptUSB is designed to support both private and corporate customers. The content of the drive HAS TO BE BACKED UP either on a different drive or computer BEFORE removing EncryptUSB. Simply deleting EncryptUSB.exe will result in the loss of all files on the drive forever.
Except for the initial encryption, EncryptUSB encrypts only files that have changed or are new since the last encryption. It skips files that have already been encrypted.
EncryptUSB automatically encrypts all files on your drive. You can exit from the EncryptUSB application (via the Windows notification area popup menu) to temporarily disable encryption.
Yes. If files are encrypted with EncryptUSB, you will need the program to decrypt them.
We are continuously working to improve and enhance the EncryptUSB application and make updates available at any time. The EncryptUSB application is designed to perform an automatic check for updates every time you plug in your drive, but you can also check for updates by moving the cursor over the EncryptUSB icon in the Windows notification area and clicking Check for Update in the popup menu.
DriveSecurity is a multilingual application. It currently supports twelve languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, and Japanese.
