Secure Data has added yet another recognition award to our line of secure storage solutions. Our SecureUSB BT, SecureDrive BT and SecureUSB KP and SecureDrive KP have all won the Red Dot Award for Product Design 2019. This award is only given to products with innovative and outstanding designs.
What is the Red Dot Award?
The Red Dot is a symbol of the best in design and business. The award was created with the idea of helping businesses distinguish themselves through design. The competition began in 1955 in Germany. It came as a result of the “Verein Industrieform” association, which aimed to make a more attractive and modern environment for Germany both industrially and in consumer products.
It has since transformed into an internationally sought-after seal of quality design. There are three different categories for the Red Dot Awards: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept. A competition for each of these categories is organized annually.
A panel of expert juries who work in the areas of product design, communication design, and design concepts judge the competition entries.
How Are the Product Design Award Winners Chosen?
The jury of experts evaluates each entry according to their motto, “In search of good design and innovation.” The entries are submitted under one of the 48 categories for the Product Design award. Some of these categories are: furniture, sports equipment, cars, and computer and information technology.
40 international experts judge the products on the criteria of:
- Degree of innovation
- Ergonomics
- Formal quality
- Durability
- Product periphery
- Symbolic and emotional content
- Functionality
- Self-explanatory quality
- Ecological compatibility
Jury members evaluate and physically test the products themselves before giving their decision. As the award suggests, the winning products offer an outstanding and high-quality design.
SecureDrive’s Sleek Design Puts It Above the Rest
The SecureDrive and SecureUSB product line are the only hardware encrypted storage devices on the market. Our Senior Product Specialist, Mike Vanoverbeke said, “Our devices can be used across many different fields of work and use cases, so we gave them a sleek, attractive look that anyone would enjoy. They are very thin and portable.”
All of the SecureDrive products are covered in a tough epoxy coating, making it impossible for an intruder to separate the parts or reverse engineer the mechanism. They were designed to be convenient, which is why they are OS independent.
The BT Model has unique design features:
- Authenticated wirelessly using the DataLock app
- Authenticating on your mobile device with Touch ID or Face ID
- Remote management ready offering remote wipe, geo-fencing, and time-fencing
With the remote management feature, the admin for the device can view who accessed the device and when.
The KP Model is:
Authenticated via an onboard keypad.The keypad was created to be wear-resistant to prevent a third party from guessing commonly used numbers. These requirements are a design feature that further ensures high levels of security for the users.
Adding to Our Accolades
The Red Dot Award for Product Design 2019 is the newest recognition for the SecureDrives and SecureUSBs. These products are also FIPS 140-2 Level 3 Certified and were named CES Innovation Award Honorees in January 2019.
